The Impact of Too Many Tabs

Although it’s a minor issue, having a large number of browser tabs open can have its drawbacks. For one, you have to spend time going through those tabs before closing the browser so you don’t lose an important place holder.

Additionally, when sharing your screen with colleagues, your cluttered screen might cause colleagues to view you as disorganized, and as the tabs multiply, they and their content become smaller, meaning you can’t read them and you’ll have to sift through them all to find the one you actually want.

Why Tabs Proliferate

There are many reasons users keep multiple tabs open, including that they don’t want to lose a useful page that’s a source of new and important information they want to save. Additionally, some tabs may be frequently used references, such as a list of company abbreviations and acronyms, or an interesting article they want to come back to when they have more time to read it in detail.

Fortunately, there’s a simple and readily available tool for those plagued by cluttered browser bars: the bookmark tool!

Managing Tabs Via Bookmarks

Instead of leaving a useful tab perpetually open, users can simply assign it a bookmark, close it, and come back to it whenever they want. The purpose of bookmarks is specifically to save one’s place for things like commonly used references, useful information, or interesting reads.

Although there’s nothing wrong with keeping a large number of tabs open, at some point, it can get a bit cluttered and disorganized. Therefore, bookmarks are a great and logical tool to take on some of the burden of place-holding.
