Birmingham, Alabama, posts lowest jobless rate among all large, US metro areas

Birmingham, Alabama, posted the lowest jobless rate in November among all US metropolitan areas with more than 1 million in population, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Birmingham’s jobless rate was 3.8%; it was followed by the Minneapolis-St. Paul-Bloomington area in Minnesota at 3.9%.

The US metro area with the highest jobless rate in November was Las Vegas at 11.5%.

Among metro areas of all sizes, Ames, Iowa, posted the lowest jobless rate in November at 2.0%. The highest jobless rates were in El Centro, California, at 16.4% and Kahului-Wailuku-Lahaina, Hawaii, at 16.0%.
