Online talent platforms — and their impact on the world of work — were the center of a discussion last week at online event put together by The World Employment Confederation, the group representing the staffing industry globally. The focus included how government and others can work together to ensure talent platforms can contribute to decent work and economic growth post-Covid, the organization reported.

Uma Rani, a lead author of a report on digital platform work at the International Labour Organisation, noted during the event that the number of platforms has quadrupled over the past 10 years. The report includes online staffing as well as rideshare platforms among online platforms included in its coverage.

“There is no one-size-fits-all solution to the issue, as the discussion exposed,” according to the WEC. “But there is certainly an urgent need to better balance workers’ entitlements and employers’ interests.”

Other groups participating in the event included the International Organisation of Employers and the International Labour Organisation.
