Jobless claims rise by 6,000

Initial jobless claims rose by 6,000 last week to a level of 260,000, the US Department of Labor reported. However, the previous week’s jobless claims had been revised downward by 2,000.

CNBC reported the number was in line with Dow Jones’ estimate.

The four-week moving average of initial claims rose by 6,000 last week to a total of 254,750. The previous week’s average was revised downward by 500.
