A median 5% of temporary staff never show up for an assignment, but the rate of no-shows varies by type of worker, according to the latest data from the “North American Staffing Company Survey” report by Staffing Industry Analysts.

It found a median 20% of temporary workers in commercial staffing never showed up for an assignment.

“Commercial staffing attendance statistics indicate a challenging staffing environment, with a median 20% of those who accept an assignment not even showing up and 25% leaving the assignment early (either fired or quitting),” according to the report. “This compares with a median of just 3% of temporaries on the professional side not showing up and just 8% leaving the assignment early.”

For industrial temporary workers, in particular, the median no-show rate was 24%.

For IT professionals, the no-show rate was just 2%, and for healthcare temporary workers, the rate was 5%.

The report is based on a survey of 398 staffing firms. The full report is available online to Staffing Industry Analysts corporate members.
