The very latest job market data from the UK’s leading independent job board, CV-Library, reveals that retailers are confident in the 12th April re-opening as set out in the government’s roadmap out of lockdown.

  • Statistics
  • In fact, the data suggests that retailers have been gearing up for several weeks as the number of job postings has increased every week since the start of February, making this the 5th consecutive week of growth.

In the last 7 days alone, job posting in the retail and purchasing industry were up by +29.8%. When compared to the 2021 weekly average, job postings for the week commencing 15th March 2021 are up an incredible +51.2%.

A recent study revealed that CV-Library is the leading job board provider for the retail sector, driving the highest number of applications*. Data here reveals a similar story.

Applications for retail and purchasing roles were up +21.75% month on month in February, and at their highest monthly level since October 2020.

Lee Biggins, founder and CEO of CV-Library comments: “For many, this latest lockdown has been the hardest yet and a desire to return to the high street is stronger than ever. Non-essential retailers are clearly hopeful that they’ll be able to open their doors on the 12th April and are recruiting staff to make this transition happen as smoothly and successfully as possible. Providing a third wave of the virus is kept at bay, we predict these significant increases will continue well into Summer, until retailers can gauge consumer spending patterns after a year living with a global pandemic.”

Biggins continues: “Only time will tell if the UK government will be able to stick to the dates laid out in its roadmap. When shops do eventually re-open the tills will undoubtedly be ringing, heralding another milestone on the road out of lockdown and a much-needed boost to the UK economy.
