Staffing hours worked weekly measure down 5% year over year

Hours worked in the US staffing industry decreased 5% year over year in the week ended Oct. 22, according to the SIA | Bullhorn Staffing Indicator, released today.

Hours were down 1.3% week over week.

Professional staffing hours were stable year over year in this latest Indicator. In the past month, the year-over-year growth rates for professional staffing hours hovered between 4% and 6%. This is much lower than the year-to-date average year-over-year growth rate of 15% for professional staffing hours.

Hours worked in commercial occupations fell 7% year over year, following declines of 7% and 5% the prior two weeks. The year-to-date average year-over-year growth rate for commercial staffing hours stands at 1%.

The SIA | Bullhorn Staffing Indicator measures hours worked. It comprises two sets of analyses: a year-over-year comparison showing how the most recent week compared to the same week 12 months previously and an indexed value that has been benchmarked against data from the week ended Jan. 19, 2019.

In the week ended Oct. 22, the index value was 104, following readings of 105 and 107 in the prior two weeks as revised.
