This week is the fourth annual National Locum Tenens Week, aimed at recognizing the contribution of locum tenens, or temporary doctors, in the US.

“National Locum Tenens Week is the time when we reflect on and honor the incredible work locum tenens clinicians do every day,” NALTO President Matt Erickson said.

Staffing firms this year will acknowledge the impact of locum tenens physicians on fighting the Covid-19 crisis, according to the organization.

“This year, the week takes on new significance as we reflect on the way so many locum tenens clinicians selflessly traveled to the places across the country hit hardest by the pandemic to serve on the front lines of the Covid crisis,” Erickson said. “The impact they’ve had on the patients in their care is tremendous.”

NALTO estimates that 90% of US hospitals use locum tenens.

National Locum Tenens Week occurs annually in the second week of August.
