Temp penetration rate is this week’s staffing word of the week. SIA’s Lexicon defines it as “the proportion of people working on a temporary basis through a staffing firm compared to total people in employment.” But the penetration rate has fallen sharply since the start of Covid-19 pandemic.

It was at 1.57% in both May and April, down from 1.91% in March.

Thursday, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics is slated to release employment data for the month of June, from which the most current penetration rate can be calculated.

Penetration rate and other definitions can be found in the Lexicon online.

It’s unknown what the June employment report will bring, although Glassdoor reported that it expects to see ongoing signs of recovery overall, looking at the total number of jobs in the US. However, it noted it expects to see the jobless rate remain above 10% and Thursday’s report won’t include the impacts of the recent upsurge in Covid-19 cases.
