Workers feel their careers have stalled during Covid-19 pandemic

Has the Covid-19 pandemic caused careers to stall? A majority of workers, 88%, think so, and 79% feel pressure to push their careers further as the pandemic ends, according to a poll by Monster.

Meanwhile, 80% do not think their current employer offers opportunities. Monster’s poll found that 34% believe the best way for advancement is finding a job with a new employer, and 21% believe switching to an industry with more opportunities is the best move.

Other findings in the poll include:

  • 54% fear they do not have the skills needed to succeed in the new normal, and 63% worry that hybrid work environments will slow their career growth.
  • When looking at the responsibility behind one’s career growth, 49% take the role on fully while 49% expect their employer to play a part alongside them. 
  • Most workers define career growth through a salary increase, 77%, or a promotion, 72%.

Monster’s survey had an average response of 250 to each question.
