As the COVID-19 pandemic reshaped how, where and why employees do their jobs, business leaders and the workforce increasingly looked to their HR professionals for strategic guidance—placing HR’s days as a back-office compliance function squarely in the history books. Today, HR is a primary driver of business strategy, with HR leaders expected to deliver answers on everything from employee engagement and experience in the new hybrid world to the top HR technology solutions powering the future of work.

That imperative means that HR leaders, like their function, must lean into strategy, an idea at the core of HRE’s inaugural Strategy Summit, Nov. 8-10 at Rancho Bernardo Inn in San Diego. The invite-only gathering will bring together senior-level HR executives from around the country for a series of small-group discussions, workshops, roundtables and presentations—all designed to help modern HR professionals stay at the leading edge of innovation, despite the ongoing uncertainty impacting the function.

Madeline Laurano

“This event is an amazing opportunity for HR leaders and some of the leading providers in this industry,” says Madeline Laurano, summit chair, and founder and chief analyst of Aptitude Research.

The agenda includes keynotes from industry analyst Josh Bersin, who will explore how AI drives HR evolution. Sales and talent executive Jenny Dearborn will lead a workshop about the increasing opportunities for HR to lead on ESG and climate challenges. At the same time, EEOC Commissioner Keith Sonderling will provide an insider’s look at the legislative and regulatory landscape for CHROs in 2024. i4cp CEO and co-founder Kevin Oakes will close the summit with a keynote guiding attendees through actionable steps to strengthen organizational culture for modern challenges.

“As organizations turn to their HR functions to help lead them through the ongoing evolution of the world of work, people professionals are facing an unprecedented level of pressure,” says Rebecca McKenna, senior vice president, HR Portfolio, at ETC, part of the Arc Network, which owns HRE. “The highly regarded thought leaders taking part in this summit will provide HR executives with actionable strategies to meet these challenges head-on.”

HRE Strategy Summit will also allow for ‘collaboration and community’

In addition to the formal program, Laurano says, the event will give participants the opportunity to build “collaboration and community.”

“This retreat is the perfect combination of interactive sessions, networking and community building with some of today’s most innovative and well-respected HR leaders,” she says.

Jill Larsen, chief people officer at software company Synopsys, is among the attendees and says she’s looking forward to working with fellow executives to create a roadmap for HR’s future.

“The HR Executive Strategy Summit is an opportunity to meet with my peers and chart the course for the future of work, inspiring innovation and fostering collaboration.”
