The average weekly number of temporary and contract workers employed by US staffing companies rose 6.0% in the second quarter to 2.8 million, according to American Staffing Association’s Staffing Employment and Sales Survey released Thursday. The report also found the average weekly number of workers rose 1.4% in the second quarter, following a dip in the first quarter.

ASA noted staffing employment has returned to the pre-pandemic trend of rising in the second quarter after dropping in the first.

Looking forward, staffing companies are optimistic and anticipate revenue to 11% year over year in the third quarter and 12% for full-year 2022.

“Businesses are increasingly turning to staffing and recruiting firms to help meet their needs both for a flexible workforce and for permanent workers,” ASA President and CEO Richard Wahlquist said. “At the same time, the staffing industry is playing a critically important role in connecting people with employment opportunities that align with their needs and help them to advance their careers in the changing world of work.”
