Call it the AI dynamic duo.

Consulting giant EY and tech titan IBM are striking out together to deliver artificial intelligence and automation to HR through the EY.ai Workforce, which launched last week and is part of EY’s $1.4 billion investment in its newly created EY.ai platform. EY.ai Workforce, powered by IBM’s AI technology watsonx Orchestrate, is designed to help HR employees streamline their work, leveraging artificial intelligence, automation and natural language to create job descriptions or pull together payroll reports.

In recent years, employers have increasingly focused on artificial intelligence and machine learning to automate processes and amass deep business intelligence to craft corporate strategies. However, only in the past year, with the advent of ChatGPT and other forms of generative AI, has this shift become a fevered pitch among HR leaders.

CHROs, for example, are finding generative AI is introducing new efficiencies to their role so they can focus on more high-value work. The technology, however, is also raising concerns, especially in the talent acquisition function, that some HR professionals will eventually be replaced by the technology. However, analysts and other industry players say humans will remain a critical element in HR as the technology develops.

Parul Mishra, vice president, product management of digital labor, IBM, and Kim Billeter, people advisory services leader for EY’s Americas, sat down with HRE last week at the HR Technology Conference & Exhibition to discuss EY.ai Workforce and what it means for HR leaders.
